Currier Museum of Art
Online Collections Database
Contemporary art (post-1945) at the Currier includes paintings, sculptures, prints, and photographs as well as decorative arts with particular strength in studio ceramics. Highlights of the collection include abstract expressionist paintings by Adolph Gottlieb, Joan Mitchell, and Mark Rothko; geometric abstraction by Josef Albers, Jules Olitiski, and Richard Anuskiewicz; representational paintings by Neil Welliver and Jennifer Bartlett; sculptures by Alexander Calder, Louise Nevelson, Theodore Roszak, and Marisol. The museum also focuses on collecting work by New Hampshire's most accomplished artists.
Major recent additions to the contemporary collection can be found outside the galleries. Mark di Suvero's 35ft high painted steel sculpture, Origins (2001-04), greets visitors to the museum as they walk across the Kimon and Anne Zachos Court. Sol LeWitt's wall drawing for the Winter Garden was a site-specific commission designed by the artist before his death in 2007 and was installed in 2008 by a team of assistants from the artist's studio and the local community.Highlights from the Contemporary Art collection
