Ann and Harte Crow Print Collection

In 2009 the Currier received a major gift of thirty-nine works on paper from Ann and Harte Crow of New Hampshire. The donation, noted for its extraordinary quality, constitutes one of the most important acquisitions of American prints in the museum's history. Included are signature examples by regionalist artists Grand Wood, Thomas Hart Benton, and Dartmouth graduate and professor, Paul Sample, who had his first retrospective exhibition in 1948 at the Currier. The Crow gift also adds depth to the permanent collection, which includes major related paintings of the same era by Edward Hopper, Charles Sheeler, and Paul Sample, and Realist artist Neil Welliver and Jane Freilicher. This important gift strengthens the Currier's ability to demonstrate the continuity and richness of trends in twentieth-century American art.
